The Student DR Bank Big Savings promotion fixed rate or variable with rate cap terms from 5-20 years and comes with unemployment assistance for those who qualify. In order to apply the applicant must be a legal resident of the United States (U.S. citizens or permanent residents with a valid I-551 card only) and a professional with bachelors or graduate degree (please note parents who took out loans on their childs behalf are also allowed to apply for refinancing). The DRB (aka Darien Rowayton Bank) refinance application will taje about 5 minutes to complete and will subject the applicant to a soft credit check to determine their refi rate (at this time the “soft credit check” can take a few business days or could be immediate). Required documentation the application will have to upload include a photo ID, 2 recent pay stubs, proof of graduation (this usually can be obtained from the Deans office), and loan statements indicating the current payoff amount. Failure to upload any of the previous name documentation will result in the loan application be denied. Assuming the applicant is approved for refinancing DRB will send checks or wire funds. Those who fail to meet the standard set forth via the DRB’s credit underwriting criteria may want to explore the option of having a cosigner on the loan (a cosigner usually comes in the form of a parent or rich uncle). Those who are current loan holders with DRB and find themselves suddenly unemployed will want to inquire about the DRB forbearance option which may provide full or partial forbearance of payments for one or more 3-month time periods.
